Plain language about what PKU Diet stores. Last updated 18 August 2026.

PKU Diet is a tracking tool, not medical advice. Always follow your clinic’s guidance.

Account

When you create an account we store your name, email address, and a hashed password. We use this so you can sign in and so we can contact you if needed.

Profile

A profile is the person whose PKU diet you are tracking — that may be you or someone you care for. We store the profile name, date of birth, daily protein limit, and optionally a home address or coordinates and a photo.

Health tracking

The app stores the day-to-day records you enter, including:

  • Food entries (including optional location)
  • Meals
  • Pantry items and shopping lists
  • Medications and supplements
  • Blood tests (Phe in µmol/L)
  • Daily notes and sick-day flags

Photos

Food photos and profile photos are stored on Amazon S3 so they can sync across devices and shared profiles.

Sharing

Other PKU Diet accounts can join a profile with a share code or QR code. People you invite can see and update that profile’s tracking data. Only share a code with people you trust.

Third parties

Barcode and product lookup uses Open Food Facts. Hosting and storage use Amazon Web Services (including S3 for photos). We do not sell your data.

Contact and deletion

Questions, or a request to delete an account and its data: emailsimon@pkudiet.app.
